In the first Cabinet assembly after taking oath on Wednesday, CM Nitish Kumar and his deputy, Tejashwi Yadav, determined to convene the Bihar meeting session on August 24 to are seeking for have faith vote. The session was delayed as speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha refused to stop and promoted ruling alliance to move a no-confidence motion.
As per norms, 50 lawmakers signed the motion and submitted it to the meeting secretary. Former speaker Vijay Kumar Choudhary said the action could be taken up only after 14 days from the date it was once served on. He stated it will be taken first on the day the House convenes.
“The speaker himself cannot preside over the House if the no-confidence motion is passed. In his absence, the Deputy Speaker [Maheswar Hazari] will preside,” he said.
Hazari belongs to Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) or JD(U), which along with its allies has the numbers needed to get rid of Sinha.
A JD(U) leader said the whole matter was already arranged. “Normally, one predicts that the Speaker will resign with the change of government. But it is his decision.”
Sinha declined to comment. “The Chief Minister has sent a letter. He ordered us to convene a meeting. The secretary has all the details. Once we get the file, we can identify more. As long as I hold this post, I will not make any announcements outside [the House].”
