In a major crackdown on the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA). On Friday the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided 16 locations in Assam in connection with ULFA recruitment and militant training in Myanmar.
In a statement issued on Friday, the NIA said the agency conducted searches at 16 locations in seven districts of Assam, including Kamrup, Tinsukia, Sadia, Nalbani, Charaideo, Dibrugarh and Sibsagar.
The case registered by the NIA on its own initiative on May 18 this year pertains to the the recruitment of youth into ULFA, extortion to strengthen ULFA and radicalization of youth for illegal activities and training them in camps located across the Indo-Myanmar border. This information was given in Myanmar’s statement.
The case involves ULFA (I), a group of banned outfits that have been demanding sovereign Assam even as a large section of the group led by Arvind Rajkhwa surrendered in 2010 and is negotiating with the government.
