Rajganj, December 12: The mysterious death of a youth in Madarihat police station has created a sensation. The body of a youth named Rahul Roy (20) was found hanging in the toilet of the child care corner of the police station. The deceased was a resident of Cheulibari in Rajganj block of Jalpaiguri district.
According to police sources, Rahul was one of the four youths brought to Madarihat police station on Tuesday night for questioning in the case of disappearance of a youth from Shishubari. After questioning, all four were asked to stay in the child care corner of the police station.
On Wednesday morning, Rahul’s body was found hanging from the ventilator in the toilet of that room. On receiving the news, Rahul’s family reached Madarihat police station.
Rahul’s family said that he worked as a makeup artist and left home to go to Cooch Behar last Sunday. Till Tuesday, they were in touch with him on phone. However, on Wednesday they got the sad news of his death.
The family has raised serious questions on how such an incident could happen while the deceased was in police custody and has demanded a high-level probe into the matter.
Sources have confirmed that a medical board will be constituted at Cooch Behar Medical College on Thursday to conduct the post-mortem of the body. The investigation into the incident is underway.
