Siliguri, May 28: An air of grief descended on the Baribasa area under New Jalpaiguri police station after the body of a 50-year-old man was found hanging from his house. The deceased has been identified as Hari Singh, a mason by profession.
According to family sources, Hari lived with his wife, who is an Anganwadi worker, and two sons. His two daughters are married. On Wednesday morning, he had gone to meet one of his daughters and later spoke to her again over the phone. Shortly after, family members found him hanging inside the house.
The New Jalpaiguri police were immediately informed. Police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) for post-mortem.
Investigations are underway to ascertain whether the death was a case of suicide or due to some other reason.
