31-year-old Sanchit Khandelwal, a resident of Sevoke Road, Siliguri, has triumphed over life-threatening Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) through advanced surgical intervention. OSA, a condition marked by blocked airways during sleep, significantly disrupts quality of life, leading to extreme fatigue and health risks.
Despite being physically fit and not obese, Khandelwal faced debilitating symptoms that impacted his mental and physical well-being. After struggling with CPAP therapy, he sought help from Dr. Dipankar Datta, an ENT surgeon at Manipal Hospitals, Broadway. Following a thorough assessment, including a polysomnography test, Dr. Datta recommended a Multi-level Sleep Surgery.
On 8th September, Dr. Datta performed a complex surgery, which included an Intra Capsular Tonsillectomy, Barbed Palatopharyngoplasty, and uvuloplasty to enhance airflow and improve sleep. “The surgery took over two hours and was crucial for those not responding to other treatments,” Dr. Datta stated. Khandelwal’s recovery was swift; he was discharged just two days post-surgery and is now enjoying a refreshed life without the burden of CPAP. “The surgery was a lifeline. I feel like I’ve been given a fresh start,” he expressed gratefully.
