At least three people were killed and 21 others left injured in the powerful car bomb blast that took place at a police picket outside Saeed’s residence, located in the BOR Society in Johar Town. The explosion was reported at around 11:00 am on Wednesday. Windows and walls of Saeed’s residence were damaged due to the impact of the explosion. Among the injured are some police officers, who were guarding Saeed’s house.
The report further said that investigative agencies have started geo-fencing the area as part of the probe.
This may be noted that Hafiz Saeed, the 71-year-old radical cleric, is currently serving a jail sentence at the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore for his conviction in terror financing cases.
The blast triggered rumours that Saeed was present in the house.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari condemned the terrorist incident and said that the “flawed Afghan policy” of the current government led by Prime Minister Imran Khan is the reason behind a rise in such attacks in Pakistan.
While addressing the media at the Parliament House in Islamabad, Bilawal said: “I had demanded on the floor of the (National) Assembly that whatever this government is doing covertly and through the backdoor should be brought before the representatives of the people. The government should tell us what its policy is”.
An UN-designated terrorist, Hafiz Saeed has been convicted for 36 years imprisonment in five terror financing cases. His punishment is running concurrently.
Hafiz Saeed-led JuD is the front organisation for the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which is responsible for carrying out the 2008 Mumbai attack that killed 166 people, including six Americans.
