Kuki National Assembly (Kuki Inpi) has urged NSCN ((I-M) kilonser Joseph Rengma from interfering into the issues of Karbi Anglong in the larger interest of all.
KNA was reacting to the statement issued by Naga Rengma Hills National Workers (NRHNW) of the NSCN (I-M) opposing the proposal of the Assam government to create Kuki Regional Autonomous Council (KRAC).
In a statement, KNA president Tongthang Touthang stated that the “unpleasant situation” mentioned by Joseph Rengma was far from truth and reality. Touthang rather said that the Karbis, Kukis, and Rengmas were living peacefully in Karbi Anglong.
KNA reminded about the long standing demand for a separate administrative set up for the Kuki community within the ambit of Karbi Anglong Autonomous District framework, based on the foundation of authentic and indisputable historical facts.
“We humbly appeal to the kilonser (NSCN-IM) to refrain from interfering into the matter and issues of Karbi Anglong in the greater interest of peace and communal harmony as we cannot afford to ignore the people/mass aspiration for peace and development,” the press note mentioned in its concluding part.
KNA said that the Government of India or Assam had no agenda to look into the issues and interests of any particular tribe or community, but to promote and uplift all indigenous people of the district as a whole.
It further acknowledged the effort of the chief executive member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang for bringing peace and development to benefit all communities of the district without any prejudice.
