Kidnapped youth rescued safely in Siliguri, five arrested for kidnapping

Siliguri, January 08: A horrific kidnapping incident has come to light in Siliguri, where people are being targeted due to old enmity, ransom is being demanded after kidnapping.

According to the information, a youth named Avinash Pandit was sitting at a paan shop in Bhavesh Mod area late on Monday night, when two miscreants riding a scooter forcibly abducted him. After the kidnapping, late at night the kidnappers called the family from Avinash’s mobile and demanded a ransom of ₹ 1 lakh.

After this, the youth’s father went to the place mentioned by the kidnappers with ₹ 1 lakh for the release of his son. Meanwhile, the police had already set up surveillance and was waiting for the criminals. After several hours of drama, the police rescued Avinash Pandit safely from NJP area.

Within 24 hours of the incident, in a joint operation by Ashighar Chowki and NJP police station, five people were arrested for kidnapping Avinash Pandit. The arrested accused include Pintu Mandal, Rahul Roy, Sujan Kundu, Hardik Kumar and Roshan Lamzade. 

Among the arrested people, Hardik Kumar is from Gujarat and Roshan Lamzade is from Nepal. The other three accused are residents of different areas of Siliguri. Regarding the incident, Siliguri Metropolitan Police DCP Rakesh Singh said that a case of kidnapping has been registered. 

However, the motive behind the kidnapping is not yet clear, as Avinash Pandit has not been able to give a full statement to the police. The five arrested people have been taken on remand after being produced in the court and further investigation is on.
