Kharibari school locked on Saraswati Puja day, students upset, parents protest

Siliguri, Feb 03: Students arrived early in the morning for Saraswati Puja at Dilsaram Primary School in Kharibari but were disappointed to find the school gate locked. This angered the parents and they staged a protest outside the school demanding that the Puja be celebrated.

The incident took place when locals expressed their anger over the school not having the traditional Saraswati Puja. They gathered at the school gate and raised slogans, ‘We want the Puja.’

The parents expressed their disappointment, saying that the Puja is an annual event that brings joy to the students. However, there was no celebration this year. When the students arrived in the morning and found the school locked, they were upset and joined the protest with their parents.

In response, the school principal assured over the phone that though there was a delay, the Puja would still be held.

Speaking over the phone, the chairman of the Siliguri Primary Education Council stressed that Saraswati Puja should be organised in all educational institutions and confirmed that an inquiry would be conducted as to why the puja was not celebrated in the school.
