Hon’ble Minister, Revenue and Disaster Management, Government of Assam, Shri Jogen Mohan Flagged off the awareness drive on “Wearing Face Masks and Sensitization among people on behavioural changes required in view of COVID19 pandemic” today from Janata Bhawan, Dispur.
The awareness programme has been initiated by Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) in association with DDMA, Kamrup Metro and Home & Political Department, as a pilot project in the first phase at all the Urban Local Bodies/Town Committees/Municipal Boards area of the districts viz. Kamrup Metro, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Cachar and Barpeta. The AAPDA MITRA/ Pratirodhi Bondhu volunteers of all these districts will accompany the Police department and will distribute the reusable Face masks in public places like market area/commercial locations/huts etc. to only those persons who violate the Govt. rule of not wearing face masks after Police Department issues penalty for not following the Govt. instruction. Such person shall be provided reusable facemasks at 50% concessional rate. The awareness drive will be continued for 7 days at first and it would be continued further. The other districts will also be covered under this special drive in the next phase.
Recently, it has been observed that though several guidelines, notifications etc. are issued regarding wearing of Facemasks, yet a section of people have been violating the guidelines by not wearing facemasks in public places. Therefore, in order to boost the awareness among people about the pandemic and related issues that are exposed to in their daily life and to stop the spreading of the virus, this programme has been initiated.
Shri Mohan in the Flagg off ceremony today said, “Though the ‘Unlock notifications’ has been initiated by the government, please use mask in public places. As the festive season has been started with coming Durga Puja and surely in these days many people would gather everywhere to celebrate the festivals but this time, please take care of your near dear ones regarding COVID-19 because the Lockdown has been gone, but not the COVID-19 and its fierceness.”
The programme was also attended by Shri MS Manivannan, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary and Chief executive Officer, ASDMA, Shri Bishwajit Pegu, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metro, Shri Dhiraj Saud, ACS, State Project Coordinator, ASDMA,Shri Hemanta Kumar Das, APS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kamrup Metro and senior officials of ASDMA, DDMA, Kamrup Metro and Home & Political Dept.
