Jaldapara Forest Department start tree planting initiative for greenery

Alipurduar, August 10: In an important step towards environment conservation, the Jaldapara National Park Authority has launched a tree plantation drive aimed at enhancing the greenery of the forest. Celebrated during the Van Mahotsav festival during the monsoon season, this unique way involves planting saplings on the branches of big trees.
Foresters presume that this innovative approach will contribute to a “green revolution” within the park. Once planted, the plants are secured to tree branches with mounds of soil and jute sacks. This year, around 200 saplings have been planted in different areas of the park, including North, East, West, Chilapata and Kodalbasti areas. The growth and development of these plants will be closely monitored using a GPS system.
The Forest Department has announced plans to continue this effort, with plans to plant more trees in the coming weeks.
