Influencer’s video goes viral, claims Tang is ‘flavoured sugar powder’

After Bournvita, influencer Revant Himatsingka claimed that the ‘Tang’ drink was not healthy as it contained ‘unreasonable amounts of sugar’.

Himatsingka, also known as Foodpharmer, earlier this year made a video on Bournvita, produced by Cadbury, a subsidiary of Mondelez International. He has, however, received legal notice for his claim on Bournvita. The Tang brand is owned by Mondelez International.

Now, in a new video posted on Saturday, the influencer claims that Tang is nothing more than ‘flavored sugar powder’ and that ’93 percent of the product is sugar.’ He also highlights the ‘marketing ploy’ that promotes the drink as ‘healthy’ and contained with ‘vitamin’. The problem is that they advertise their product as a drink with different vitamins. They market the drink with a ‘Tang Milao, Pani Pilao’ campaign so that children can drink more water using Tang,” he said in the video.

While sharing the video, he captioned it, “If they limit their marketing to taste then there will be no problem. The problem is that they advertise their products as contained with “vitamins” and with different claims. They marketed the drink through the “Tang Milao, Pani Pilao” campaign to encourage children to drink more water using Tangs.

Netizens have also come forward to express their views on the video. One user wrote, “Unfortunately we weren’t taught to read labels…or never took an interest until very recently… You’re doing a great job educating everyone…keep it up.”
