Income Tax Dept to launch new ITR filing portal on June 7

The Income Tax department will launch a new income tax e-filing web portal for taxpayers, which is used to file routine income tax returns (ITRs) and undertake other tax-related work by June 7, 2021. On this portal, taxpayers will be able to file income tax returns (ITR) and a few other tax-related tasks. The new portal, in the words of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), “will provide taxpayers convenience and a modern, seamless experience.”

An order was earlier issued by the systems wing of the tax department regarding the transition. The order stated that in preparation for the launch of the new portal and for the migration activities, the existing portal of the I-T department at www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in will not be available for a period of six days between June 1 to 6. During these six days, the exiting portal will not be available to both the taxpayers as well as the officers of the Income Tax department.

“It is expected that the filed ITRs would travel faster to the central processing centre and intimations would be received by taxpayers sooner and consequently refunds would be generated sooner,” says Vivek Jalan, partner, Tax Connect Advisory Services LLP.
