Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has written to his counterparts in other states, requesting them to include a chapter on the great Ahom warrior Lachit Borphukon in the curriculum of schools, colleges in their respective states.
Lachit Borphukon’s heroic leadership led to the final defeat of the mighty Mughals at the Battle of Saraighat in 1671, inscribing a unique place for him in the annals of Assamese history.
The Chief Minister believes that the saga of Lachit Borphukan’s valor should spread far and wide, instilling a sense of pride in every Indian for the heroic deeds of this great Ahom commander.
Himanta Biswa Sharma in his letter said that despite being a shining example of patriotism and love for the motherland, Lachit Borphukon’s achievements remain relatively unknown in many parts of the country. Urging his counterparts to include the history and valor of Lachit Borphukon in the curriculum, the chief minister added that it would contribute to spreading patriotic ideals among the youth and inspire them to dedicate themselves in the service of the nation.
