Gujarat Court passes order of life long imprisonment to Asaram Bapu for raping his female disciple

Criticised godman Asaram Bapu will be sent to imprisonment for life term. The order was passed by a Gandhinagar court in Gujarat. It was a decade old case hearing in which he was accused for raping his female disciple since five years.

Additional Sessions Judge DK Soni passed the order today.

Assuring the order passed, advocate RC Kodekar said Bar & Bench,

“My client has been sentenced to life term for rape and unnatural sex. He is further sentenced to 1 year for outraging modesty of the victim. A fine of Rs 10,000 is imposed on my client besides Rs 50,000 as compensation to be paid to the victim.”

Asaram was, on Monday, convicted for offences under 201 (destroying evidence), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 346 (wrongful confinement), 354 (outraging modesty of a woman), 377 (unnatural sex) and Sections 376 (rape) of the IPC.

According to the FIR registered at Chandkheda police station in Ahmedabad, the victim was purposely confined by Asaram in his Asharam at the outskirts of Surat city and was raped repeatedly from the year 2001 to 2006.
