Om Prakash Mathur, the Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, undertook his inaugural tour of the state today, visiting Nathula Pass and Baba Mandir. This visit marks his first official engagement since taking the oath of office. Upon arriving at Nathula Pass, located at an elevation of 14,140 feet, Governor Mathur was greeted warmly by General Officer Commanding (GOC) Amit Kapthiyal of the 17 Mountain Division, along with other army officials. During his visit, the Governor interacted with the stationed
army personnel, expressing deep appreciation for their unwavering dedication under harsh conditions. “It fills me with immense pride to witness our soldiers serving under such extreme conditions. Their commitment ensures the safety and peace of our nation,” Governor Mathur remarked. The Governor also took the opportunity to learn about the historic 1967 victory of the Indian Army at Nathula, praising the soldiers for their exemplary service and representing the entire nation.
In a gesture of respect, Governor Mathur presented the national flag to the army personnel as a memento of his visit. He also visited the Sherathang War Memorial, paying homage to the valor and sacrifices of the soldiers. The Governor’s tour continued to Baba Mandir, situated at 12,400 feet, where he offered prayers for the peace and prosperity of Sikkim’s residents.
