Siliguri, March 21: Siliguri Town GRP foiled an attempt to smuggle ganja in Kanchan Kanya Express and arrested a businessman during the raid. The accused has been identified as Ritwik Roy, a resident of Purbasthali in Burdwan district.
According to reports, the accused was planning to smuggle ganja in the train. Based on a tip-off, Siliguri Town GRP officials conducted a raid when the train reached Naxalbari station. During the search, 6 kg 32 grams of ganja was recovered, following which he was immediately arrested.
The estimated market price of the seized ganja is between ₹30,000 to ₹40,000. During interrogation, the accused revealed that the ganja was being taken to Kolkata for smuggling.
The arrested person was produced in Siliguri court on Friday.
