Flood death raises to25, 6.5 lakh

The flood situation in Assam eased slightly on Monday even as the death toll rose to 25 as one more person died and more than 6.5 lakh people were affected across 22 districts.

More than 6,50,400 people have been affected by the floods in Barpeta, Cachar, Darrang, Jorhat, Kamrup, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong West,Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Golaghat, Karimganj, La. . Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur and Udalguri Districts.

Nagaon was the worst affected with over 3.51 lakh people, followed by Cachar with around 2 lakh people and Hojai with over 44,500 people.

As of Saturday, over 7.2 lakh people across 22 districts of the state have been affected by the floods.

Barpeta, Biswanath, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Nalbari, Sibsagar, Sonitpur, Tinsukia and Udalguri districts witnessed widespread erosion.

Dams, roads, bridges and other infrastructure have been damaged by floodwaters in Nagaon, Barpeta, Cachar, Darang, Dhubri, Goalpara, Karimganj, Morigaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Hojai and Udalguri, ASDMA said.
