Flipkart, India’s leading e-commerce platform, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Kalyani, West Bengal, to establish a Center of Excellence (CoE) lab under its Supply Chain Operations Academy (SCOA). This initiative aims to upskill local youth for careers in the expanding e-commerce supply chain sector.
The CoE lab will include classrooms and simulation labs to provide specialized training in supply chain operations. Upon completing the course, candidates will receive free certification and gain practical exposure through 45 days of On-The-Job-Training (OJT) or Industry Exposure (IE) at a Flipkart facility. ITI Kalyani, situated near Flipkart’s Haringhata Bigbox facility, will actively mobilize candidates, meeting the facility’s skilled workforce needs.
In 2024, SCOA trained 4,200 candidates, including 826 women, emphasizing skill development, diversity, and inclusion. The curriculum covers essential roles like Picker, Putter, Packer, and Data Entry Operator, catering to industry demands.This partnership also benefit Siliguri by enhancing employability in a region vital for e-commerce logistics. The initiative promises to address skill gaps, enabling businesses in Siliguri to leverage a trained talent pool, bolstering the area’s supply chain ecosystem. Flipkart Senior VP Hemant Badri highlighted the program’s potential to transform India’s supply chain landscape, while ITI Kalyani Principal Jyotirmay Chatterjee praised the collaboration for empowering youth and supporting sectoral growth.
