Families displaced from Bhusuk demand a resolution on land compensation

More than forty years have passed since the Army’s land acquisition process in Bhusuk in 1978–1979 forced 149 families to relocate. In order to obtain compensation for unused leave, these families have now met with the secretary of the Land Revenue Department. The family, accompanied by Tenzing Norbu Lamtha, the 23 Syari Constituency’s MLA, pleaded with the government to take up their long-standing issues. The gathering was a significant step in the direction of resolving a decades-old issue. Prem Singh Tamang, the chief minister of Sikkim, has offered the impacted families his support. Given the gravity of the situation, he instructed the relevant departments to expedite the process.

Those who have been impacted by the delay for so long now have new hope thanks to his intervention. The Chief Minister’s proactive stance has been commended by the families. “This is a positive start toward ensuring the displaced family receive justice. This will be accomplished through the efforts of the Land Revenue Department and the Chief Minister’s direction,” MLA Tenzing Norbu Lamtha noted, stressing the need for group efforts to address this long-standing grievance. These families may finally be able to look forward to the end of this decades-old injustice as the government takes proactive measures to address the problem.
