Former English Footballer Wayne Rooney retires from playing to focus more on managerial role. The 35-year-old takes up the position on a two-and-half-year deal which will run until the summer of 2023. He says “It’s a new chapter of me. Of course I’ll miss playing but time doesn’t suffer no man. I’ve had my time.” He said after being appointed as Derby County’s new manager.
Born in Liverpool, Rooney joined the Everton youth team and made his professional debut for the club in 2002. He moved to Manchester United in 2004 where he won 16 trophies. He scored 253 goals for the Manchester United in all competitions making him top goal scorer of all time.
Rooney made his senior international debut for England in 2003 at 17 years old. He is England’s youngest goal scorer ever. Rooney represented his country in 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cups. With 53 goals in 150 international matches he is England’s all time record goal scorer. Rooney joined Derby as a player-coach last January. Now he will aim to prove the second act of his football life can be as successful as his first.
