Elephant calf dies of trypanosoma in Bagdogra

Bagdogra, Mar 10: A baby elephant died of trypanosoma after struggling for 22 days while undergoing treatment in the Bagdogra forest.

According to reports, the 6-year-old female elephant calf was found to have an infection in its legs. After investigation, blood tests confirmed trypanosoma. The calf was initially given medical treatment at the Bagdogra Bengdubi Army Camp.

Later, a special training team from Thailand took care of her. Despite continuous treatment efforts, the elephant eventually died. The incident has led to a wave of grief among forest personnel.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Debesh Pandey has confirmed that the elephant died of trypanosoma. He said that voluntary organisations and forest personnel made great efforts to save the baby.
