Earthquake hits Sumatra Island of Indonesia

Indonesian Agency for Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysics (BMKG) said that Earthquake of 6.2 magnitudes hits near the western coast of Sumatra Island of Indonesia. The earthquake’s epicentre was on land and had no tsunami potential.

Indonesia’s 17,000 islands are vulnerable to frequent earthquakes as the country falls in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a horseshoe-shaped belt of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.

As per United States Geological Survey (USGS), the seismic event occurred at a depth of 12.3 km at 7.09am (local time).

There were no reports about of casualties or structural damages.
