Mr. Grover, who has since created a fantasy sports app called Crippy and built his career with great appearances on podcasts and reality television shows, has yet to comment on the allegations. In the past, he has denied any wrongdoing.
Alleging that the allegations came from “personal hatred and low thinking”, he said, “The only admirable thing about me is my dreams and the ability to achieve them against all odds through hard work and initiative.”
The FIR accuses Ashneer Grover and others of criminal breach of trust, criminal conspiracy, cheating, dishonesty and forgery. If convicted, they face life in prison.
The filing comes after a five-month investigation by the Delhi Police, which the Bharatiya Janata Party welcomed as a step in the right direction.
The Bharatiya Janata Party said the FIR would help agencies probe the scam more thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice. The company has promised to cooperate with the authorities in the investigation.
