Delhi: 2 nabbed in Chhattisgarh days after stealing ₹25 crore from jewellery store

In a major breakthrough in the sensational ₹ 25 crore jewelery heist in Delhi, police today arrested three accused from Chhattisgarh. A team of Delhi Police, which is based in Chhattisgarh, arrested three persons – prime accused Lokesh Srivastava, Shiva Chandravanshi and another unnamed person. A lot of gold was recovered, they said, adding that the gang had also done the same in Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh.

The accused allegedly entered in a jewellery shop in South Delhi’s Jangpura on Thursday and fled with jewellery worth Rs 20-25 crore. The incident took place at Umrao Jewellers in Bhogal area between Sunday evening and Thursday morning.

The thieves entered the balcony of a four-storey building next to the shop, reached the ground floor where the strongroom is located, disconnected the CCTV cameras and made a hole in the wall to get access to the lockers.

Apart from the ornaments in the lockers, they fled with the jewellery that was put on display in the showroom.
