Controversy erupts over deaths due to bad saline in Bengal, MLA Shankar Ghosh files FIR

Siliguri, Jan 14: The death of a pregnant woman in Midnapore after drinking Ringer Lactate Saline has sparked widespread controversy in West Bengal. On Tuesday, Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh filed an FIR against West Bengal Pharmaceutical Saline at the Siliguri Police Station.

Allegedly, several deaths of mothers were reported last year due to the same saline. Despite earlier warnings to the health department, the saline continued to be used in medical colleges and hospitals across the state.

After the tragic death in Midnapore, public outrage has grown over the use of the problematic saline. In response, MLA Shankar Ghosh filed an FIR, condemning the use of “faillisted” saline and calling it a criminal act. He urged that those responsible be punished severely. Ghosh further said that he would discuss further steps with the Leader of the Opposition.
