CM Himanta Biswa Sarma undertakes measures to avoid road accidents

In an effort to reduce road accidents in the state, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has asked the transport department to take several measures.

Sarma asked Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya to hold a meeting with the PWD and Transport Department to introduce necessary safety rules in accident-prone areas to reduce the incidence of road accidents.

Most of the road-related fatalities are due to not wearing helmets or not using seat belts, so the transport department and the police will jointly launch a fortnight drive to create awareness among the public about following safety rules ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja. Save lives.

All services of Assam’s transport department will be online from August 15 as manual services will be offered only to customers whose bio-metric identity is withheld by law.

The transport department has been asked to talk to the finance department to facilitate the use of digital payment gateways like ‘Paytm’ to collect fines from defaulters.
