CBSE removes topics on ‘democracy and diversity’, Mughal courts, poems by Faiz from syllabus

Chapters on Non-Aligned Movement, Cold War Era, Rise of Islamic Empires in Afro-Asian Region, History of Mughal Court and Industrial Revolution have been omitted from CBSE Class 11 and 12 Political Science Syllabus.

From the Class 10 Social Science syllabus, CBSE dropped the theme “Impact of Globalization on Agriculture” from the ‘Food Security’ chapter.

Portions of translations of two Urdu poems by Faiz Ahmed Faiz have also been omitted from the section on ‘Religion, Communalism and Politics – Communalism, Secular State’.

Chapters on ‘Democracy and Diversity’ have also been dropped from the syllabus.

When questioned about the motive behind the exclusion of these subjects from the syllabus, the officers said that the exclusions are in line with the phase of syllabus rationalization strategy and NCERT recommendations.

CBSE Class XI History syllabus will no longer have ‘Central Islamic Lands’ chapter. As described in the final year syllabus, this chapter deals with the rise of Islamic empires in the Afro-Asian region and its impact on the economy and society.
