India summoned the British deputy high commissioner and requested an explanation for the utter “lack of security” after recordings showing the Indian flag being lowered at the Indian embassy in London during a protest by pro-Khalistan elements surfaced on social media. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MEA) expressed India’s “unacceptability” of the UK government’s disregard for the security of Indian diplomatic facilities and staff in the UK in a sharply worded statement. Due to the event and the absence of High Commissioner Alex Ellis from Delhi, British Deputy High Commissioner Christina Scott was called to the MEA.
