Police in Siliguri today arrested a number of BJP activists for allegedly tearing down posters in Siliguri in protest of the death of a BJP worker. Trinamool leaders alleged that some leaders and activists of the Youth Front tore down the posters of the Chief Minister and set them on fire at the Siliguri Air View intersection yesterday. They were reportedly arrested today.
Sources said that grassroots leaders and activists staged a protest on Tuesday demanding immediate arrest of seven leaders of the Youth Front in specific cases. According to the police, several of the accused have been arrested. Police said the rest of the accused would be arrested immediately. The incident was strongly condemned by BJP leaders and activists in Siliguri. It also demanded their immediate release.
