Bappi Lahiri passed away on Wednesday morning. He was admitted to Criticare Hospital in Mumbai’s Juhu area, where he breathed his last breath. According to the doctor he was discharged from the hospital on Monday after undergoing treatment for a month. On Tuesday suddenly his health deteriorated. The infection in his lungs caused him difficulties in breathing. At present, his mortal remains are at his Juhu house.
Born into a Family with rich traditions in classical music, in Calcutta, Bappi Lahiri was also known as the ‘Disco King’ in India. He began his career as a music director at the young age of 19. Aparesh Lahiri, his father was a famous Bengali Singer & Bansari Lahiri, his mother was a musician and a singer, well experienced in Shyama Sangeet and Classical Music.
He received his first opportunity in a Bengali film, Daadu in 1972 and the first Hindi film he worked as a music composer was Nanha Shikari in 1973. The film which established him in Bollywood was Zakhmee in 1975, for which he composed music and doubled as a playback singer.
For several years, Bappi Lahiri leaded the music industry. He gave some of the most popular songs including I am a Disco Dancer, Raat Baaki, Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re, Bambai Se Aaya Mera Dost, Pag Ghoongroo, Tamma Tamma, Yaad Aa Raha Hai, and many more.
At the 63rd Filmfare Awards, the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award was awarded to Bappi Lahiri.
