Bamboo pavilion prepared before Saraswati Puja in Siliguri, traders hope for profit

Siliguri, Jan 31: Bamboo mandaps are being constructed in Siliguri’s Eastern Bypass area ahead of Saraswati Puja. Traders in Siliguri hope to profit from the sale.
A few years ago, there was a huge demand for these bamboo structures, but the demand has since declined. In recent years, traditional mandaps are decorated with a variety of flowers and other materials.
Despite this decline, traders continue to build the structures in the hope of selling them during festivals to feed their families.
This year, traders have built bamboo mandaps in different designs in the hope of better sales. Traders said that though the demand has declined in cities, it is still in great demand in rural areas.
