Babul Supriyo of Trinamool Congress on the bypoll: ‘entering into a new journey, hoping for a better second inning.’

Babul Supriyo of the Trinamool Congress, who is contesting in the Ballygunge assembly bypoll, called it a “new journey in politics” on Monday. Last year, months after assembly elections, the 51-year-old former cabinet minister moved from the BJP to the Trinamool Congress. “Today is the deadline for submitting my nomination. For me, politics is a new experience. I have the blessings of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the support of party workers, and I intend to improve on my first inning of politics “.

Supriyo has been accused by Ghosh of changing political parties as often as he changes his clothes. Supriyo reacted in a tweet, saying: “Overconfidence is a very dangerous thing, and it’s no surprise that ‘Keya Ghosh’ is unaware of it. Because no one knows history, they don’t realise that changing parties in politics isn’t the same as ‘changing clothes.'”

Supriyo had previously been a vocal opponent of Mamata Banerjee’s party. And his flip had caught him off guard. He had also resigned as the Member of Parliament for Asansol as in Lok Sabha.

Shatrughan Sinha, an actor-turned-politician, is set to run for Trinamool from Asansol. In a tweet earlier this month, Mamata Banerjee said, “I am pleased to announce on behalf of the All India Trinamool Congress that Sri Shatrughan Sinha, former Union Minister and famous actor, will be our candidate in the Lok Sabha by-election from Asansol.”

Sinha had previously been a member of the BJP, but he ran as a Congress candidate in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The Bengal by-elections will take place on April 12th. With the high-profile candidates, Trinamool hopes to win both seats.
