At Oscars Hollywood show support for Ukraine

On the red carpet of Academy Awards the actors showed support for Ukraine at Oscars this year. They are wearing a badge of Ukrainian flag to teaming up their outfits with blue ribbons. Benedict Cumberbatch, Jason Momoa, Jamie Lee Curtis, Joe Walker, Nicole Kidman, Jessica Chastain and many other celebrities expressed solidarity with Ukraine.

Nicholas Britell was nominated for his ‘Don’t Look Up’ score. Diane Warren and Yoon Yeo-jeong were nominated for last year’s Best Supporting Actress for ‘Minari’. They wore a blue ribbon in a show to support Ukraine and also for the refugees of Ukraine. As Jamie Lee Curtis hit the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre, he spoke about the importance of this blue ribbon.

Jamie Lee Curtis said that, “The blue ribbon is about the refugee crisis. It’s an incredibly important moment for what happened in Ukraine. For our time right now, the exodus of human beings is a crucial story.”

‘Game of Thrones’ star Jason Momoa kept a blue-and-yellow handkerchief in his pocket. That is the colour of the Ukrainian flag. Benedict Cumberbatch wore the Ukrainian flag colours in a pin on his suit jacket. ‘The Godfather’ movie director Francis Ford Coppola was also wore a pin with the Ukrainian flag.

After much speculation about how they will handle the issue at the grand event, Hollywood A-listers also held a moment of silence to show support for the Ukraine. A series of slides appeared on the giant screen at the Dolby Theatre as there was a moment of silence.

In the first slide it had been written that, “We would like to have a moment of silence to show our support for the people of Ukraine which is currently facing invasion, conflict and prejudice within their own borders.”

And the next slide read that, “While film is an important avenue for us to express our humanity in the times of conflict, the reality is millions of families in Ukraine need food, medical care, clean water and emergency services. Resources are scarce and we collectively as a global community can do more.”

The next one read that, “We ask you to support Ukraine in the any way you are able #StandWithUkraine.”

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky had been given a chance to speak during the ceremony. He had reportedly pleaded with members of the Academy Awards.
