In a bid to uplift Assam’s tea tribes, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Monday announced the formation of seven committees, comprising members of the community, to look into and make recommendations on key focus areas such as health, education and skill development, among others.
“Based on these recommendations, the government will come up with necessary schemes that will be incorporated in the next state budget,” Sarma said after holding a meeting with intellectuals, including poets, writers, doctors, community leaders, professors, bureaucrats and politicians, of the community in a programme titled ‘Humder Moner Kotha’ on Monday evening.
He attended an interactive programme titled “Humder Moner Kotha” with intellectuals and leading citizens of the Tea Tribes community with a view to prepare a roadmap for all round development of the community along with his Council of Ministers at Assam Administrative Staff College in Guwahati.
The committees will comprise members of the tea community and will make recommendations on areas such as health, education and skill development, among others.
“We’re exploring robust short to long term action plan for Tea Tribes. Assam Govt will constitute 7 sub-committees to study all issues & will submit reports by Dec 2021. Based on the recommendations, GOA will include provisions for their socio-eco upliftment in next Budget,” Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma made the announcement after participating in an interactive programme with intellectuals of the tea community to prepare a roadmap for their all-round development.
“…while the BJP led State government during last five years undertook a number of programmes for development of the tea tribes community, still a lot needed to be done for the community’s holistic growth,” CM Sarma said.
He further said that the Assam government would discuss the issues concerning the tea tribes community over the next six months.
