The Assam government has risen the retirement age from 65 to 70 years of doctors in government medical colleges of the State.
The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting on Friday (August 19) evening.
Assam Information Minister and Government Spokesperson Piyush Hazarika said the number of experienced doctors was not proportionate to the number of medical colleges, which are now seven. “Retirement age of doctors thus increased to meet the shortage,”.
The state government has sanctioned Rs 136.8 crore for the implementation of the ‘Free Medicines and Consumables’ scheme for hospitals including tea gardens.
