Phansidewa, Feb 28: Police of the Bidhannagar Check Post in Phansidewa have foiled an attempt to smuggle cows and buffaloes under onion sacks.
A total of 42 cattle were rescued and two persons were arrested in connection with the case. The two arrested persons have been identified as Amar Ali and Taiyab Ali.
According to reports, police intercepted a lorry laden with onions at the Murliganj check post in Phansidewa. On checking, they found 21 buffaloes and 21 cows hidden under the sacks.
As the accused failed to produce valid documents of the cattle transported, the police seized the lorry. The arrested persons were produced in the Siliguri Sub-Divisional Court on Friday.
Meanwhile, investigation into the case has been initiated by the Bidhannagar Check Post police.
