A week after COVID-19 vaccination, a 48-year-old female anganwadi worker died on Friday.
The autopsy report confirmed she would be the first victim of Covidsheild vaccine in Manipur. The state health department has said that the exact cause of her death will be known only after autopsy.
Family members has however blamed the COVID-19 vaccine as the cause of death claiming that she had no history of suffering from any major illness.
Naorem Sundari Devi, wife of N Roken Singh of Kumbi Terakha of Bishnupur district died around 7 am on Friday at Moirang CHC in Bishnupur district where she was rushed on the way to a hospital in Imphal.
Officials of the health department said that she had a complaint of rashes and fever before she breathed her last.
However, family members said that her health condition deteriorated from the evening of the same day she received the first dose of the Covidsheild on February 12 last.
They said that after she complained of weakness after vaccination, they brought her to local healthcare where doctors suggested it was due to low BP.
When rashes were found on her body on the fourth day of the vaccination, she was again rushed to the healthcare centre where the doctors said she has allergy and recommended drugs to relief from allergy.
As her health deteriorated further, the doctors referred her to a hospital in Imphal early morning on Friday. However, she succumbed while arrangements were made for transporting her to Imphal, the family members said.
After her death, anganwadi workers of the area along with family members and locals converged at district chief medical officer (CMO) office at the Bishnupur district headquarters and lodged a complaint, alleging that she died of Covid vaccine.
They further lodged a complaint to the DC of the district.
On the other hand, daily vaccination data of the state health department showed as 46 people who had received the first dose of Covidsheild vaccine developing mild reactions.
The 46 mild reactions reported were on home care and have fully recovered, the report said.
On the other hand, with 2751 people vaccinated today, the total number of Covid vaccine beneficiaries in the state rose to 38,484 on Friday.
Among them 28,863 were healthcare workers who were the beneficiaries of the first phase of the vaccination drive.
Meanwhile, Manipur’s COVID-19 caseload rose to 29,230 on Friday with five more fresh cases were reported in the last 24 hours
The total caseload included 3,432 CAPF personnel.
With three patients discharged after recovering from the viral disease, the recovered tally of the state also rose to 28,772, including 3,417 CAPF.
A total of the 85 active cases including 11 CAPF personnel were there in the state. The recovery rate of the state stood at 98.43%.
As there was no report of death related to COVID-19, the fatality tally remained at 373.
