An American citizen was apprehended in this Uttar Pradesh district on Wednesday while attempting to enter Nepal using a fake passport and visa, according to a senior police official.
According to immigration officer Shabbir Kumar at the Sonauli checkpoint, American citizen Eric Daniel Beckwith, 64, was held by the immigration division in the Sonauli region early in the morning after his passport and visa documents were found to be fraudulent. At the time, Beckwith was en route from India to Nepal.
Sonauli, in the Maharajganj district, is a well-liked transit hub between India and Nepal. It is located on the border between the two nations.
