Amazon India and IWAI signed MoU to transform the transportation for the e-commerce industry

Amazon India and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to transform customer package transportation through inland waterways. This marks Amazon India as the first e-commerce company in India to use Inland Water Transport, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening India’s transportation infrastructure. The collaboration aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision for inland waterways as an affordable and sustainable mode of transportation.

Under this MoU, Amazon India and IWAI have collaborated to containerized cargo movement and inland waterway network usage. Amazon India plans to expand its supply chain by exploring these waterways, with a pilot run on the Patna to Kolkata waterways, supported by IWAI and its carriers.

This move reflects Amazon India’s commitment to customer demand and government collaboration in the e-commerce industry. Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Cabinet Minister,Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Government of India said, “This initiative is a reflection of the importance of sustainable logistics solutions in India’s rapidly expanding e-commerce sector.”
