On 6th December Naxalbari’s Sebdella Jote made it to the headlines after a case regarding drinking water issues was registered at the Jalpaiguri Circuit Bench of the high court. Actually the residents of the village were facing acute drinking water issues prompting them to take the legal course. As per the reports the village of Naxal uprising leader Kanu Sanyal has been facing water issues for a long time. On Tuesday Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay took note of the grievances of the residents of the village in the court. Following this the Judge summoned government officials and the PHE contractor to the court on Wednesday. Meanwhile Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrived at Siliguri on this day and assured resolving this issue soon. Earlier upon landing at the Bagdogra airport, the CM was notified of the issue by DM and Siliguri Mayor Gautam Deb. In this regard the CM stated that earlier the said village was under former BJP MP SS Ahluwalia, however no work was done. She added that the responsibility to provide water supply is currently under PHE and the works for the same are currently underway. The CM further stated that as the work is in progress, water tanks will be provide to the village by Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC).
This is actually very sad incident as the village people are not able to get good water and getting difficulty in life. If you see water is our basic need and everyone should get it as it is their basic right. Although it is good to see that government is taking action against this kind of problem and trying to solve this problem. Today Siliguri and its surrounding places are developing very fast and for this reason at least basic need of people should be fulfilled so that people here live happily.
