Actress Sushmita Sen says ‘Mahesh Bhatt publicly attacked and insulted me on the sets of Dastak’

Sushmita Sen made her debut in 1996 with Dastak directed by Mahesh Bhatt. She made her video debut two years after winning the Miss Universe pageant in 1994. The actress played role in Dastak as a splendor queen. In a new interview with Twinkle Khanna, Sushmita revealed that Mahesh Bhatt offered her Dastak, despite having no acting background. Despite Sushmita’s reservations, Mahesh Bhatt convinced her to take the role. However, he broke her barrier by insulting her on the sets, reveals Sushmita.

Sushmita narrated the incident when Mahesh Bhatt insulted her in front of someone on the sets during the shoot of Muhraat. The actress shared, “He broke inhibitions in the front of 40 media people and 20 production guys, publicly attacking me. I began crying, ‘I advised you I can’t act, why you known as me for this, I do not understand how to act.’ He’s like, ‘kya leke aaye ho (what have you delivered to me), playing Miss Universe like this on camera. She can not act to save her life. (sic)’” However, Sushmita mentioned that she thinks Mahesh Bhatt is a great director.

How did Sushmita get on board for this role? Sushmita revealed that Mahesh Bhatt called her when she was once in Mumbai to visit her family. Later he satisfied her by acting in films.
