Actress Sushmita Sen reacts to being called ‘gold digger’ for dating Lalit Modi, says she is a ‘self-made woman’

Sushmita Sen has responded to social media trolls who called her a ‘gold digger’ when you consider that news of her relationship with former IPL chairman and businessman Lalit Modi has come to light. Since Lalit announced on Twitter that he and Sushmita are in a relationship a few days ago, the actor has been bombarded with messages, memes and jokes, with many implying that he is with Lalit ‘for her money’. On Sunday, the actor shared two posts criticizing this with the hashtag ‘self-made woman’.

Lalit Modi surprised everyone when he shared pictures with Sushmita during their holiday in Sardinia and Maldives a few days back and called Sushmita his ‘better half’. He later clarified that the two were not married but were dating. Sushmita also posted a clarification on her Instagram that she is not married but ‘surrounded by the support of love’.

On Sunday, Sushmita first shared an article via She the People on Twitter, using the title as her caption. “Calling women gold diggers is problematic culture,” it read. Adding heart, hug, thumbs up and folded hand emojis, she also hashtagged ‘an automatic woman’.


A few minutes later, she posted another article – this time from Vogue India – titled “The response to Sushmita Sen and Lalit Modi’s relationship is a master class in hypocrisy.” Sushmita shared a portion of the article that read, “Former Miss Universe’s relationship options continue to, and inexplicably, amount to controversies.” She came up with the hashtags ‘well-expressed’ and ‘well-accepted’ as well as ‘a self-made woman.’


After posting these tweets, the actor received many guides from his fans. Many said he should ‘ignore the haters’. “You are above all these comments,” one fan responded to her tweet. Another wrote, “Very respectful response from you.”

Earlier in the day, Lalit was also known to be ‘trolling’ her in a social media post with the line, “”Why media is so obsessed with trolling me for tagging me wrongly,” read part of her long note. Sushmita also shared a sarcastic take on social media on Saturday, where He talked about his ‘power to cancel words.” His fans said it was the actor’s way of tuning out mean comments.
