The attack on the Indian Consulate in San Francisco during a protest by some pro-Khalistan elements has been denounced as “completely unacceptable” by the US, which also reaffirmed its commitment to the safety and security of diplomatic facilities and the diplomats who serve there. On Sunday, demonstrators erected two ‘Khalistan flags’ inside the Consulate grounds while yelling pro-Khalistan slogans and tearing down the temporary security barricades put up by the local police. These flags were quickly taken down by two consular staff members. A group of irate demonstrators then stormed the consulate’s grounds and began bashing the entrance and glass with iron rods.
