The first Majhitar Open Badminton Championship 2025 and the third State Ranking Junior U-19 completed at the Advanced Technical Training Center in Bardang, Sikkim. With assistance from the Badminton Association of Sikkim, the Majhitar Badminton Club organized the competition, which drew 300 players, including national-level players from Sikkim and the surrounding areas. As the principal guest, former MLA Namchi Singithang Krishna Rai gave badminton rackets to winners in an effort to promote young players’ involvement in the game. MLA West Pendam LB Das was the Chief Patron, while Raj Kumari Thapa, the Deputy Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, was a special guest.
MLAs NB Pradhan and LB Das defeated the Majhitar Badminton Club team in a men’s doubles exhibition match during the championship. There were open categories (men’s and women’s singles, men’s doubles, mixed doubles), junior U-19 events (boys’ and girls’ singles and doubles, mixed doubles), and veterans’ divisions (35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+). Cash awards, certificates, and trophies were awarded to all winners and runners-up. The competition has grown to be a major event on Sikkim’s sports calendar, encouraging young athletes to compete at a higher level and fostering badminton potential.
