60% of India’s Sandwich Generation feels financially insecure: Edelweiss study

Edelweiss Life Insurance’s latest study reveals that 60% of India’s Sandwich Generation—adults aged 35-54 supporting both children and ageing parents—feel unprepared for the future. Conducted with YouGov, the survey of 4,005 respondents across 12 cities showed financial stress driven by essential needs like healthcare and education, alongside aspirational goals such as vacations and home renovations.

Sumit Rai, MD & CEO, Edelweiss Life Insurance, noted that family obligations are driving financial decisions. “They often end up relegating their own dreams to the background, leaving them feeling unprepared for the future,” Rai said. The study found that while 94% of respondents have undertaken financial planning, only 60% maintain active investments in categories like life insurance and mutual funds. Edelweiss aims to address these concerns with tailored products and innovative solutions.
